Name: Allentsteig

Originally the town was called Tygia, Tigin, Thige. These names are derived from the illyric word "dujas" (murmur) for Thaya. The name Allentsteig is first mentioned in a document of the 12th century, when Adelold of Kaya-Kamegg (1188 - 1216) was owner of the castle. From 1212 the town was called "Adeloldstige". The meaning of the name is "Area of Adelold on the murmuring brook".
